How to compare System Plans
From time to time, you may need to compare two System Plans, either two different System Plans in the same repository file or the same System Plan in different repositories (e.g., in the existing Production repository and the new one you are updating for a new release).
If you need to know which entities are different AND the exact differences in each entity, then you should export the two System Plans into the same new/empty client. To export the first System Plan, open the new/empty client, select the System Plan on the Repository File Maintenance dialog, and click the Export System Plan button. This will cause all of the libraries and library entries used in the selected System Plan will be exported into the new/empty client. Now, when you export the second System Plan using the same process (and same new client), the export process will tell you what entities are duplicates (and don't need to be exported into the client), what new entities are being created, and what entities are different and being renamed (all these entities will be renamed with a _2 or #2 suffix). It is recommended that you save a copy of this process as it can speed looking for and documenting differences. Once everything has been exported, you can use ProAdmin to compare the entities with and without the _2 or #2 suffixes to discover all the differences.
If the System Plans you want to compare are in different repository files and those System Plans have different Client Levels (i.e., the System Plans were added to their repositories using different versions of ProAdmin), then this process is slightly more complicated. First you must export the System Plan into a new/empty client created using that version of ProAdmin. Next, open the client using the same version of ProAdmin as the client level of the second System Plan. Finally you can export the second System Plan into the client and proceed as described above.
